Wassail Celebration
Wednesday January 15th 2025 10am and 11am
We will be doing our annual wassail celebration on Wednesday 15th of January 2025. If your little one does not normally attend on a Wednesday, please do bring them along if you would like to, but please remain with them at all times. This is primarily a celebration for the children, but if you would like to pop by and get involved, you would be very welcome.
The ancient custom of wassailing common in cider-producing regions of England consists of singing to the trees and awakening them by banging pots and pans. It was thought to promote a good harvest for the coming year and is a wonderful way to celebrate our fruit trees at Aldingbourne and to teach the children about the cycles of seasons and giving thanks for our food.
During our celebration we will be singing our wassail song we have been learning, blessing the trees by giving some apple juice back to them and awakening them by banging our pots and pans. The children will also be hanging bird feeders in the orchard to look after our wildlife.
